May Day 2021 in Hämeenlinna
May Day, 1 May, is a celebration of spring and labour. In Finland, May Day is celebrated in many different ways. People gather for picnics. Doughnuts and sima, a drink similar to lemonade, are enjoyed on May Day. Many also celebrate with sparkling wine. Homes are decorated with balloons and streamers. It is customary for those who have graduated upper secondary school to wear their white caps. Labourers organise May Day marches.

We all want a better summer for all of us, so we should remember to spend May Day responsibly avoiding bigger gathering and meetings. We can spend May Day with our closest ones. It is also good to remember about regional restrictions and to follow the guidelines in order to prevent the spread of infections.
Bus traffic will operate according to Friday timetables on 30.4 and according to Sunday timetables on 1.5.
Libraries will be closed earlier on 30.4. On May Day, 1.5., libraries will be closed all day.

- The main city library in Hämeenlinna will be open 10 am – 5 pm
- local libraries open 10 am – 4 pm, libraries in Kalvola and Tuulos will be closed
- Nummi library is closed due to the coronavirus restrictions
