The main voltage in Finland is 230 volts.
In Finland, actual electrical work may only be conducted by professional electricians.
You may carry out some minor electrical work if you have the requisite skills. For example, you can:
- replace a fuse
- replace a light bulb
- connect a light fixture in the terminal in the ceiling.
ELECTRICITY CONTRACT AND ELECTRICITY SUPPLY CONTRACT
You will receive electricity in the dwelling when you make an electricity contract. Make the contract with an electricity company. You can make the contract by phone or online. There is no electricity company office in Hämeenlinna.
The network that supplies the electricity in Hämeenlinna is owned by the Elenia company. Elenia is responsible for the electricity transmission only. You will always receive two electricity bills (transmission and consumption).
You should compare the prices of different electricity companies to find the cheapest one (consumption bill).
Remember to terminate the contract when you move out. You can also transfer the contract to your new home.
Note that if you receive income support from Kela, there must be no additional costs in the electricity contract, such as “green electricity”.
