Employee rights and obligations

In Finland, laws and agreements govern the rights and obligations of employees. The law includes provisions on working hours, holidays, sickness pay, conditions for terminating employment contracts and many other matters. Minimum wages, in other words, the smallest amount of pay you always must receive, is also provided by law.
In Finland, employees have the right to
- pay and other minimum conditions under the collective agreement
- protection which the laws and agreements provide
- join a union
- a healthy and safe working environment
Employees have the obligation to
- perform the work carefully
- observe the agreed working hours
- follow the instructions given by the management
- refuse to take part in activities that compete with their employer
- keep business and professional secrets
- take into account the employer’s interests
