Get active near you

The Get Active Near You project introduces a Finnish model for engaging schoolchildren to participate in extra-curricular activities. The project was launched in all primary schools in Hämeenlinna during the spring of 2021. The activities take place before, during and after the school day, on or near the school premises. Each activity lasts approximately 60 minutes. The activities are completely free for the participants.
The schedule is designed each year listening to the needs of the schoolchildren. In the academic year 2021/2022, every school will be offered a sports or cultural activity to host. The selection of sports and cultural activities is wide, ranging from parkour, skateboarding, media, game design and gym to cooking and arts.
In addition to the round-the-year schedule, schools can also host additional short-term activities, such as the Sports Kiosk. The Sports Kiosk is a concept in which students can try out different types of sport during school recess. The Sports Kiosks are run by local sports clubs.

No advance booking for the activities is required. The pupil is given a registration form during the first meeting, which they will fill out together with their parent or guardian at home and bring back to the next meeting.
