Vocational education and training

A vocational education and training course will give you a vocational qualification. For example, you can become a practical nurse or an electrician. You can then go to work, or apply for further studies at a university of applied sciences.
You must follow the correct application procedure to study for a vocational upper secondary qualification. Most schools use the joint application system. The joint application procedure takes place twice a year: if your course starts in the autumn, you will apply in the previous spring. If your course starts in January, you will apply in the previous autumn. If you do not have a Finnish basic education certificate, you can apply through the discretionary admissions.
Many schools also have rolling admissions for those who have already completed a degree or who have acquired skills in the workplace.
